A simple, proven solution to reduce creosote in any wood-burning appliance.
SmartClean® releases catalytic agents during a regular burn, helping to dry, loosen, and break down flammable creosote deposits for a safer, cleaner chimney.
Controlling creosote build-up by burning a simple SmartClean® log regularly will bring, for a minimal cost, peace of mind. The SmartClean®
log eliminates a large part of the creosote due to its laboratory tested catalytic action. Because the SmartClean® log will make creosote more friable, using the SmartClean® log one week before a mechanical sweeping will help the brushing by making it easier and more efficient. Using the SmartClean® log between each sweeping will keep the chimney safer and cleaner.
Before the SmartClean® log is placed in the appliance, a regular fire must be started to properly warm the chimney and the creosote, an essential step for the treatment.
After the chimney has been sufficiently heated, the SmartClean® log is to be taken out of the box and placed in a high fire while still in its original wrapper. The wrapper should not be opened.
The SmartClean® log should be left to burn entirely. During combustion, the active product evaporates and acts on creosote throughout the flue.
NATURAL HARDWOOD
Environmentally friendly product without any petroleum additives. Manufacturers of wood stoves strongly discourage the use of petroleum additives in woodstoves.
Combustion time of up to 3 hours instead of 90 minutes for our competitors.
SAFETY
Fire protection, prevent the risk of a fire and reduce cost for cleaning your chimney mid year.
Our log has also been created for being burned in wood stoves without any danger.
It consists of a log composed of compressed wood fiber, 100% natural hardwood, perforated at its center with a 35 mm diameter hole. A special compound is inserted in the log.
When the SmartClean® cleaning log is inserted into a blazing fire, it burns and when the heat reaches the center, the powder moves into a gaseous state. It is at this moment that the ingredients become active and attack the dangerous creosote in the chimney. It eliminates the creosote when in combustion.
Initially, part of the creosote will be dissolved by the gases of the powder. The un-dissolved creosote becomes very brittle and much less flammable and will eventually come off the walls of the chimney and fall to the bottom of the furnace within 15 days following the use of the SmartClean® log.
It varies from one region to another and how often you use your appliance. It is mandatory to sweep your chimney every year. However, between each brushing, a build up of creosote is created and can reach several inches thick. This increases the risk of fire.

Using a cleaning log greatly weakens the accumulation of creosote, making mechanical cleaning by a professional or individual lot easier more efficient.
A build-up of creosote will reduce the efficiency of your heating device. The obstruction of chimneys reduces its ability to evacuate smoke caused by combustion and you’ll have more difficulty maintaining and lighting a fire.
SmartClean® will reduce creosote significantly.
Woodstove appliances are known to produce more or less creosote inside the flue pipes and chimney depending on the species and humidity of wood.
SmartClean® can be used in a wood stove or fireplace insert and will reduce overall creosote weight, thickness & volatile organic compounds. It is compatible with all flue pipes, masonry chimneys and catalytic converters.
Do not use in the following appliances; BBQs, gas logs, electrical appliances, oil stoves or pellet stoves.
Please follow instructions
A regular fire with embers must have generated sufficient heat in the chimney to warm up the creosote. Make sure all fans (heating, ceiling, etc.) are shut off, even fans in other rooms such as the bathroom or kitchen. Take the log out of the box with its original wrapper. Place the SmartClean® log in the appliance in a high fire while still in the original wrapper. Close any glass doors, protection screens and lower air-intake on your wood burning appliance. Clean the pipes, flues and chimney to remove particles.

The build-up of creosote in one heating season is dense enough to be very difficult to remove with a brush, even if the work is done by a professional. Using a cleaning log greatly reduce the accumulation in addition to weaken all the remaining layers of creosote build-up.
The use of a log will slow the formation of creosote in the chimney, and this effect could last up to several weeks.
The cost of a cleaning log is minimal compared to the peace of mind and what it could save you in case of fire, given that a home is often the biggest investment in your life.
